Abstract:

To provide a protein inhibiting in vivo calcium salt crystallization and having the activity of promoting such calcium salts in the enteric canal, to provide a method for producing the protein, besides, to provide a calcium salt crystallization inhibitor/absorption promoter comprising the protein as active ingredient, and to provide food/drink and feed each containing the protein.

The protein having the ability to inhibit the crystallization of calcium salts including calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate and calcium oxalate is provided. This protein is obtained in high yield by subjecting seashells, especially scallop seashells to extraction in the presence of an oxycarboxylic acid such as citric acid and its salt or its hydrate. This protein is usable through mixing into drink, food or feed, besides, being effective as a calcium absorption promoter, a curative and/or preventive for calculosis or a curative and/or preventive for osteoporosis.
