NEW MATERIAL: Calixarene and oxacalixarene derivatives of formula I {m'+m" is 0-8, but m'≥m"; n is 0-8; m'+m"+n is 3-8; m'+m" is not less than 4 when n is 0; R3 is H, a halogen, hydrocarbyl, allyl, hydrocarbylallyl; R15 is R3 excluding halogen; X is formulae II formula V [R7 and R8 are R15, or form an alicyclic ring together; R9 is OH, NH2, NHC(O)NH2, NHAr (Ar is an aryl); n' is 0, 1]}.
USE: A metal ion sequestering agent. A compound wherein X is the formula II, has the prior sequestering function for the metal ions of heavy metals and noble metals on an alkali (alkaline earth) metal, a compound wherein X is the formula III, has the prior sequestering function for the metal ions of silver and gold on a transition metal and an alkali metal, a compound wherein X is the formula IV, has the sequestering function for the metal ions of noble metal, transition metal, alkaline earth, heavy metal and lanthanide, and a compound wherein X is the formula V, has the sequestering function for the metal ion of alkali metal.
PROCESS: Prepared by the method mentioned in, for example, USP 4556700, or the like.
