PURPOSE: To automatically measure calorific value of coal and the like at regulated accuracy by setting a combustible capsule, in which powder of coal and the like is sealed by a predetermined amount, to the lower surface of the lid of a bomb, by supplying current to a heater, and by burning the powder in a water tank.
CONSTITUTION: An inner lid 2 is separated from a bomb main body 1, and a capsule 10 in which powder sample of coal and the like is sealed, is set in the spiral part of a semi-permanent heater 9 by a robot and the like, while a container 7 for analysis is set to a supporting part 8 of the lower end of an electrode 5. The lid 2 is mounted on the main body 1, and an outer lid 4 is twisted so as to seal the capsule 10 in the main body 1, and the entire bomb is soaked in a water tank. When high pressure oxygen is supplied to the inside of the main body 1, and electrodes 5, 6 are electrified, the heater 9 is heated, and since the capsule 10 is burned with the powder sample inside, the increase in the water temperature due to the burning is measured by a high accuracy thermometer based on JIS provision. Since the powder and the like splashed at the time of the burning of the capsule 10 is received by the container 7 and is thus burned, generation of measurement error is inhibited.
