To enhance the wear resistance of a roller and a cam in a cam follower by preventing edge loading when the roller is tilted, while enlarging the area of contact when the roller assumes a proper attitude.
In the cam follower 6, the roller 9 is rotatably mounted on a shaft 8 bridged across two opposing supports 7 and 7. A compound crowning surface consisting of a smoothly continuing curved surface is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the roller 9 by inscribing a small-diameter crowning surface 13 to each end of a large-diameter crowning surface 12. Thus, even if the roller 9 is tilted because of misalignment, edge loading whereby contact stresses are increased at one axial end, as would occur in a conventional cam follower having a uniformly curved crowning surface, can be prevented.
