In the cam follower, a roller 9 having a track in an inner circumferential face thereof is rotatably supported, through a needle 15, by the roller shaft 10 having a track in an outer circumferential face thereof. When material of at least the roller shaft 10 is made of steel in which a total content of Cr, Mo, V, and W is 2.0 wt% or more and 20.0 wt.% or less, when nitride concentration on at least a rolling part surface of a finished article is 0.5 wt.% or more after hardening, tempering and nitriding treatment, and when a diameter of the roller shaft 10 is Da, Vickers hardness at a 2% Da depth from the rolling part surface is Hv 650 or more, and an average carbide particle diameter up to the 2% Da depth from the rolling part surface is 3 μm or less.
