PURPOSE: To obtain a picture with no distortion by an EVF by providing a lateral direction compression camera, a lens, a switch and the EVF to the camcorder.

CONSTITUTION: A picture whose lateral direction is compressed in response to a compression rate of a lens 1 is fetched by a camera 2. A SW1 is thrown to the position of REC at video recording and to the position of PB at reproduction. A signal from the SW1 is given to a SW2, from which the signal is fed to an output terminal EVF 4 and a video output terminal 5. An expansion circuit 6 is inserted between the input and output terminals when the SW2 is thrown to the position of expansion. With the lens 1 mounted to the camera 2, A signal from a detector 7 thrown the SW2 to the position of expansion. The expansion circuit 6 expands an input signal, a picture without distortion is displayed on the EVF 4, fed to the output terminal 5 as a video output and displayed on a display means as a picture without distortion.
