A specified number of the photographing modes are selected as the recommending photographing modes conforming to present conditions in response to conditions such as a present time, the brightness of a taken-in image or the like from a plurality of the photographing modes previously prepared to a digital camera; and a screen is displayed capable of selecting one photographing mode by a user from the recommending photographing modes. The user can photograph a subject to be photographed in a proper photographing mode by selecting one photographing mode from the displayed screen. The digital camera has a photographing function, and can be applied to an apparatus in which a plurality of the photographing modes are prepared.
