To provide a camera system enabling a camera body to independently instruct an interchangeable lens to perform a center retention control for a camera body allowing mounting of an interchangeable lens and communication with the lens, even when a command for controlling a camera shake correction is not necessary.

In performing communications from a camera body to an interchangeable lens, a camera system has a center retention start signal and a center retention end signal as exclusive signals. The camera body instructs the interchangeable lens to start center retention control by sending the center retention start signal to the interchangeable lens during a period between a completion of an operation system performing an operation thereof and a commencement of the camera body sending a correction start signal to the interchangeable lens. When ordering to stop the center retention control, the camera body instructs the interchangeable lens to stop the control by sending the center retention end signal after sending a correction end signal to the interchangeable lens.
