When the camera is set to an external stroboscope mode, a CPU controls an LCD driver to display a through-image 85 on an LCD 26, acquires a photometric value from an AE/AF detection circuit and sets the exposure value. Thereafter, the CPU sets the aperture value and the shutter speed based on the exposure value and displays the set aperture value on the LCD 26. Furthermore, the CPU acquires a zoom position from a focal distance detection part. When the focal distance is changed, the CPU determines an effective aperture value so that the exposure value will not change due to the change in the open aperture value. When the effective aperture value is different from the set aperture value, the CPU controls the LCD driver to display a character string 87 together with the set aperture value 86, showing that the aperture value is not a true value.
