PURPOSE: To provide a camera capable of appropriately exposing both a main object and a background even in the case of judging that the object is in rear light with high brightness.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of judging that the object is in a rear light state (YES at S33), in an interruption flow of INT1 where action is started by pushing a release button by two steps, whether or not the brightness of a screen in a horizontal direction is uniform is judged (S35). In the case of judging that the brightness of the screen in the horizontal direction is uniform and shutter speed is above 1/125 (YES at S35 and S37), control for changing the blind speed of at least either one of a 1st blind and 2nd blind which form a slit is performed (S41), and the width of the slit is changed, thereby appropriately exposing both the main object and the background. On the other hand, rear light flash photographing is executed (S39) in the case of judging that the brightness of the screen in the horizontal direction is not uniform (NO at S35).
