Abstract:

PURPOSE:To improve the joining strength between a cam and a shaft and the wear resistance of the cam by a structure wherein slant faces, the section of which is of a rectilinear or curvilinear form and which closely contacts with the cam are formed at the opening edges of both the ends of the through hole of the cam. CONSTITUTION:A camshaft has ceramic cams 1 with the non-circular through hole 3 and a shaft 2 made of light alloy material. Slant face parts 5, the section of which is of a rectilinear or curvilinear form and which closely contacts with the shaft 2, are formed at the opening edges of both the ends of the through hole 3 of each cam 1. The shaft 2 and the cam 1 are firmly made into as integral body, because the light alloy material intrudes in the inside of the through holes 3 due to the contraction of the shaft 2 followed by the solidification of cast light alloy material. In such a manner as described above, the strength and durability of the camshaft can be improved and the sharply weight- saving of the camshaft can be accomplished.
