Abstract:
PURPOSE: To make friction junction smooth and easy by forming tapered enlargement of specific size at one end of a circular hole formed in a cam for friction bonding to a shaft tube with a swelling part or web.
CONSTITUTION: The camshaft consists of the shaft tube 1 and multiple cams (forged product) 2 friction-joined on the shaft tube 1. The cam 2 has a cut hole 4 to accept the shaft tube 1, the diameter d of the hole is a little larger than the outer diameter D of the shaft tube 1, and tapered enlargement 6 is formed at one end of the hole. The shaft tube 1 is provided with a swelling part or web, formed by local working with a rotating tool or rolling, with an outer diameter D' a little smaller than the diameter d' of the opening of the tapered enlargement 6 at the cam fitting position C. Then, the cam 2 is friction-joined by forcing the web 7 with little deformation into the cut hole 4 through the enlargement 6.
