To facilitate the use of a can opener by enhancing the reliability of a structure or operation.
The can opener 100 has two pivotally movable handle members 110 and 120, a traction wheel 200 movable between a nonworking position and a working position by the handle members 110 and 120, and a rotatable cutter 300. The wheel 200 and the cutter 300 separate from each other in the non-working position to be mounted on a can, and approach each other in the working position to rotate and cut the can. An operation lever 400 is forward backward pivotally movable. A first rachet assembly 510 is driven by the lever 400 to rotate the wheel 200 when being pivotally moved in one direction. A second rachet assembly 520 is driven by the lever 400 to rotate the wheel 200 in the same direction and continuously rotate the wheel 200 and the cutter 300 when being pivotally moved in the opposite direction.
