PURPOSE: To accurately detect the thickness of the side wall of a glass bottle at a high working speed by carrying the glass bottle to an inspecting location on a conveyor and rotating the bottle, and then, measuring the capacitance given from a capacitive probe.
CONSTITUTION: The linear conveyor 12 and feed screw 14 of a container inspection station 10 successively move glass bottles 15 to an inspecting location at intervals and, while a belt 24 turns one bottle 15, finishing rollers 38 and 40 descend toward the mouth of the bottle 15 and retains the bottle 15. On the other hand, a carriage 20 maintains the capacitance measuring section 70 of a capacitive probe 49 so and keeps the section 70 in contact with the bottle 15 while the bottle 15 makes one round. The thickness fluctuation of the side wall of the bottle 15 affects the capacitance generated among the capacitive elements 84, 84, and 86 of the section 70 and decides the output frequency of a voltagecontrolled oscillator. Therefore, the thickness change of the side wall of the bottle 15 can be detected while the bottle 15 makes one round by detecting the output frequency of the oscillator.
