PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the commercial value of an electric vehicle by indicating the second residual capacity of the battery of the vehicle on a capacity meter as a correction value when the comparison result of a comparing means shows that a first residual capacity of the battery is smaller than the second residual capacity.
SOLUTION: In a lithium ion secondary battery, temperature detecting means 3 which detect the surface temperature of the battery are respectively provided on a plurality of modules 2 and signals indicating the detected temperatures are inputted to a battery controller 4. The controller 4 calculates the outputtable output of the battery and sends a signal to a motor controller 8 which controls a motor 7. The second residual capacity of the battery which is always computed by means of the controller 4 is compared with the first residual capacity of the battery until output limitation is started due to the battery temperature and, when the first residual capacity is smaller than the second residual capacity, the value indicated by a capacity meter is corrected by using the first residual capacity as the residual capacity of the battery. Therefore, the commercial value of an electric automobile can be improved, because the possible remaining running distance of the automobile can be recognized in a practional form and the driver does not feel any dissatisfaction nor uncomfortable.
