PURPOSE: To release a stress in a sheet in the torsional direction to prevent displacement of an image transferred in duplicated condition when a sheet loop is formed at a sheet adjusting section, adjusting operation for the top end of the sheet is made, and the sheet is fed to a transfer drum.
CONSTITUTION: A register roller device 31 positioned in the downstream from a sheet adjusting section is provided with a drive roller 32 and a pinch roller 42 movably in lateral direction of a sheet. The drive roller 32 is installed on a drive shaft 34 so that it is energized by linear bearing members 36 and 36a and springs 37 and 37a positioned on both sides of them. Also a pivot shaft 44 for the pinch roller 42 is supported by linear bearings 46 and 46a movably in the axial direction. Then, when a sheet loop is formed in a sheet adjustment section, the register roller device is moved in the lateral direction by a reaction in the torsional direction generated in the sheet so that the sheet adhered onto a transfer drum does not have any extra stress.
