PURPOSE: To provide the new compounds useful as an anti-thrombus agent, an anti-ulcer agent and an anti-tumor agent.
CONSTITUTION: The compounds of the formula I or their salts, e.g. 2- decarboxy-2-hydroxymethyl-9β-methyl-carbacyclin. The compounds are obtained by, for example, after removing protective group R31 of the intermediate of the formula V obtained from the compound of the formula IV (R31 is a protective group of hydroxy hydrogen; R38 is H, OR31 or the like), step-wisely oxidizing it, Wittig-oxyacylating and reducing it. In the formula I, L1 is α-H: β-H; M1 is α-OH: β-H, α-H: β-OH; R7 is CmH2mCH3 [(m) is 1 to 5]; R8 is OH; R15 is H, fluoro; R16 is H, or CH2 together with R17; R17 is H, 1-4C alkyl; X1 is COOR1 (R1 is H, 1-12C alkyl or the like), CH2O; Y1 is trans or cis CH=CH; Z1 is the formulae II, III [(f), (g) are each 0 to 3; Ph is 1,2-, 1,4-phenylene or the like]; provided that only when Z1 is the formula III, all of the R15 to R17 are H, and that only when R15 is H, Z1 is the formula III.
