PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound useful for an electrophotographic sensitized substance having high sensitivity and high durability as an electron transporting material.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula I (R1 is H, alkyl, aryl, etc.; R2 is H, OH, alkyl, etc.; R3 and R4 are H, aryl, aryl, etc.; R5 and R6 are alkyl, aryl, etc.; Ar is arylene or heterocyclic) such as 4-formylstyrene-N-methyl-N- phenylhydrazone. The compound is obtained by converting a compound shown by formula II (X is halogen) with a Grignard reagent, adding DMF to the reagent to give a corresponding compound, then reacting this compound with a compound shown by formula III to give a hydrazone compound, further reacting this compound with a compound shown by formula IV (X is halogen) in the presence of a transition metal compound of group VIII, a triarylphosphine and a basic compound.
