PURPOSE: To provide a carbon black-contg. pigment having improved abrasion resistance substantially without technical effort, and a process for producing the same.

CONSTITUTION: A carbon black-contg. pigment having an improved abrasion resistance and obtd. by mixing a substrate in the form of an aq. suspension thereof with a carbon black dispersion, measuring and feeding an aq. soln. of at least one metal salt into the aq. mixture of the substrate and carbon black, and forming a carbon black-contg. metal hydroxide layer and, if necessary, a carbon black-free metal hydroxide layer on the substrate by the hydrolysis to coat the substrate. This process is characterized in that after the product is separated and, if necessary, washed and dried, the product is calcined at 700 to 900°C in the absence of oxygen.
