Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon electrode material for redox batteries, which is capable of improving battery energy efficiency by reducing cell resistance during initial charging and discharging.SOLUTION: A carbon electrode material for redox batteries comprises a carbonaceous material, a crystal structure of which is a pseudo-graphite crystal structure where the <002> plane spacing as determined by wide-angle X-ray analysis is 3.41-3.50 Å, the crystallite size in the c-axis direction is 36-105 Å and the crystallite size in the a-axis direction is 50-80 Å, the carbonaceous material having the bonded oxygen atom number at the surface as determined by XPS surface analysis of 1.0% or more of the total surface carbon atom number.SELECTED DRAWING: None
