Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon electrode material for a redox flow battery capable of reducing internal resistance (cell resistance) of an electrolytic container and enhancing the overall efficiency of the battery.
SOLUTION: The carbon electrode material for a redox flow battery using an aqueous electrolyte has a crystallite size in the direction of (a) axis as determined by X-ray wide angle diffraction of 30-80 &angst . The carbon electrode material preferably has an amount of surface acidic functional groups as determined by XPS surface analysis of 0.2% or more and 1.2% or less of the number of carbon atoms on the whole surface.
