Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a substantially non-twisted carbon fiber bundle excellent in handleability, resin impregnation property, etc., by subjecting acrylic fiber bundles to a frame-resisting or infusible treatment, paralleling the plural treated acrylic fiber bundles before or during a carbonization treatment, carbonizing the bundles and subsequently imparting a sizing anent to the paralleled bundles.
CONSTITUTION: An acrylonitrile polymer is wet-spun and subsequently subjected to water washing, drawing, oiling, dry densifying and steam drawing treatments to obtain the acrylic precursor fiber yarn comprising ≥6000 filaments, preferably ≥12000 filaments. A plurality of the obtained precursor fiber bundles are subjected to a frame-resisting or non-melting treatment, paralleled to each other before or during a carbonization treatment, treated with a sizing agent consisting mainly of an epoxy resin in an amount of 0.5-10wt.%, and subsequently wound up on a bobbin or cheese to obtain the substantially non-twisted carbon fiber bundle having a fiber-splitting degree ≤40% and capable of being suitably molded by a filament-winding method or a pultrusion method.
