To produce a carbon fiber nonwoven fabric usable as a filter material for a filter or an adsorbing material and low in pressure drop.
The production method is composed of the first stage in which a carbon fiber (A) and a thermoplastic fiber (B) hot-melted at 50-200°C are mixed within a range of 20-70% B/A to produce the nonwoven fabric, the second stage in which the nonwoven fabric is folded meanderingly in the form like pleats or a platelike nonwoven fabric is laminated and the nonwoven fabric is pressurized by a suitable pressure and heated to obtain a formed body and the stage in which the formed body is sliced vertically to pleat surface in a prescribed thickness to obtain the nonwoven fabric in which the carbon fiber is oriented in a thickness direction.
