Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a carbon fiber having little fluffs and excellent handleability and giving a carbon composite material having little void defects by coating a carbon fiber with a specific urethane resin.
CONSTITUTION: The carbon fiber causing little fluffing by the friction with a metallic bar, etc., in the production of a carbon/carbon composite material and having excellent handleability can be produced by immersing a carbon fiber in an aqueous solution of an ionomer-type water-based urethane resin, thereby coating the carbon fiber with 0.01-5wt.% of the resin. The carbon fiber- reinforced carbon composite material produced by using the coated carbon fiber is excellent because of decreased generation frequency defects such as void. The resin is preferably a polyether-type resin.
