Abstract:

To provide a particle composed of a ferromagnetic metal which is excellent in corrosion resistance and wear resistance and whose surface is modified by a carbon nanofiber or carbon nanotube.

The particle includes a spherical ferromagnetic metal nucleus composed of an eutectic alloy of a composition including an eutectic point composition of one or more metallic elements selected from the element group consisting of iron, nickel and cobalt, and carbon, and a shell composed of the carbon precipitated from a liquid droplet containing a ferromagnetic metal element and carbon coating the entire surface of the spherical ferromagnetic metallic shell. Also, the carbon coating type ferromagnetic metal spherical particle whose surface is modified by the carbon nanofiber or carbon nanotube. The metal-metal compound or mixed powder is manufactured by subjecting the powder to a thermal plasma treatment in a gaseous phase.
