To obtain a carbonaceous compact having improved oxidation resistance without deteriorating satisfactory characteristics peculiar to carbon itself, e.g. wear resistance by forming a glass coating film for preventing oxidation on the surface of a compact made of a carbonaceous material.
A glass coating film is formed on the surface of a compact made of a carbonaceous material to obtain the objective carbonaceous compact excellent in oxidation resistance. The glass coating film contains a borate and the thickness of the film is preferably 10-400μm. The objective antioxidant of a carbonaceous compact excellent in peeling resistance as well as oxidation resistance is produced by suspending 70-89.4 pts.wt. boric acid and/or ammonium borate, 10-30 pts.wt. at least one kind of oxidation resistant material selected from among nitrides, carbide, oxides and silicides of metals, 0.1-2 pts.wt. org. binder and 0.5-2 pts.wt. surfactant in water.
