Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a catalyst system improved in selectivity and reaction speed at the time of carbonylation of epoxides by reaction with carbon monoxide.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon monoxide and an epoxide are allowed to react with each other under a raised temperature and pressure in the presence of a catalyst system incorporating a source of cobalt and a hydroxyl substituted pyridine compound, thereby β-propiolactone and/or its derivatives, such as β-propiolactone polymers, β-hydroxy carboxylic acids and esters, β-alkoxy carboxylic acids and esters, are formed.
