Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which can obtain alcohols from carboxylic acids in a high yield and a method for producing alcohols by the direct addition of hydrogen to the carboxylic acids by using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst for carboxylic acid direct hydrogen addition containing active carbon supporting an active metal seed containing ruthenium and tin produced by a method in which a carbonaceous raw material is mixed with a liquid containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid and a phosphate, and the mixture is baked is provided. The method for producing a primary alcohol directly from a carboxylic acid by using the catalyst is also provided.
