Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carboxymethyl cellulose or its salt which suppresses a defect on an electrode surface such as a pin hole when used as a binder for an electrode of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and has excellent capacity retention of a battery using the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing carboxymethyl cellulose or its salt which comprises: an alkali cellulose-forming step (step 1) of reacting cellulose with an alkali in the presence of a mixed solvent containing water and an organic solvent; an etherification step (step 2) of reacting the resulting alkali cellulose with an etherifying agent; a purification step (step 3) of washing and drying the resulting reaction mixture; and a pulverizing step (step 4) of pulverizing the resulting purified material, wherein the step 1 is carried out for a reaction time of 60 minutes or more and 120 minutes or less under conditions of a pH of 9 or more and a reaction temperature of 5°C or more and 25°C or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
