To provide carboxymethylcellulose made from a pulp having no limitation in raw wood and no adverse effect on the environment, reducing impurities (especially hemicellulose), and having high purity.
Carboxymethylcellulose or a salt thereof is made from a pulp and the pulp is obtained by a kraft digestion after a hydrolysis treatment.
