PURPOSE: To provide a low-toxic carcinostatic agent effective to SV40 virus-induced cancer, containing a phenylimidazolidine derivative, a phenyloxazolidine derivative (some of which are novel) or their pharmaceutically permissible acid addition salt as effective components.
CONSTITUTION: A carcinostatic agent for oral or parenteral administration, containing a compound I (R is H, formula II; X is O, N; R1 is lower alkyl, hydroxy- lower-alkyl; when X is N, R2 is R1; and when X is O, R2 does not exist) as an effective component. The compound I wherein R is III and X is O, i.e. the compound IV is novel. The preferable amount of the effective component in the preparation is 0.3W15.0 wt% for oral or transmucous administration, and 0.01W10 wt% for parenteral administration. The compound I e.g. a novel compound V, can be prepared from terephthaldehyde and N-methyl-ethanolamine.
