Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a carcinostatic agent containing a genipin obtained from the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis as an effective component.
CONSTITUTION: A composition containing genipin of the formula. The compound can be prepared either from a herb medicine obtained by drying the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis f. grandiflora or from genipa americana L. It has carcinostatic activity against tumor cells (P388) transplanted to a mouse, and has a rather low acute toxicity. It is administered pref. in doses of 50W100mg. 3 times daily.
