The insertion of the IC card is determined in case of detecting the card width W2 by the card width detecting sensor 3, and in case of detecting the magnetic material by the magnetic material detecting sensor 4, when the object is inserted into the insertion port 1b, and the contamination is determined to be inserted in either of case of not detecting the card width W2 by the card width detecting sensor 3, or case of not detecting the magnetic material by the magnetic material detecting sensor 4. A shutter 5 is opened to take the IC card 2 in, only when the insertion of the IC card is determined, and card information is read out therein.
