PURPOSE: To record and reproduce information even if a card-like optical information recording medium reciprocatingly moves and to improve hourly efficiency by forming a discrimination marker that can decide recording and reproducing directions at adjacent tracks.

CONSTITUTION: An optical card 5 is supported in the prescribed position of a supporting table 6, and reciplocatingly moves in the longitudinal direction of the card-like optical information recording medium 5 by a conveyance mechanism 7. A mobile mechanism 9 can move an optical pickup 8 in the shorter direction of the optical card 5. It is assumed that the case where the conveyance mechanism 7 moves the optical card 5 from left to right is a positive direction and the case when the mechanism 7 moves from right to left conversely is a negative direction. The mark 4 discriminating the formed direction on each track displays recording and reproducing actions when there is a pattern given to the n-th track and when the medium 5 moves in the positive direction.
