Abstract:
To detect a foreign matter such as a skimming member and the like without being limited to a foreign matter in a specific shape and requiring a special sensor such as an electrostatic capacitive sensor and the like in a card reader processing cards such as a magnetic card and the like.SOLUTION: A card reader 1 has: a main body part 4; an insertion port 3 which is opened in the main body part 4 and into which a card 2 is inserted; a conveyance path 41 which is provided in an interior part of the main body part 4, and through which the inserted card 2 is conveyed; a plurality of sensors PD1 to PD3, PDi, SW that detect insertion of the card 2 into the insertion port 3, and a state of a conveyance of the card 2 in the conveyance path 41; and a control unit 50 that monitors state transition in detection results of the card 2 by the plurality of sensors PD1 to PD3, PDi, SW, and when detecting occurrence of state transition in a form different from prescribed state transition, determines insertion of a foreign matter into the card reader 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
