Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card reader/writer hardly affected by a foreign body such as a receipt and a wad of dust entered into a card conveyance path.SOLUTION: Displacement sensors 1a, ... output signals 1a0, ... corresponding to displacements of driven rollers 2a, .... Levels of the signals 1a0, ... are at or less than a threshold value h1 when no foreign object is caught in between driving rollers 3a, ... and the driven rollers 2a, ... paired therewith, and at or between a threshold values h2 and h3 when a magnetic card 4 is caught in. When only a foreign object such as a receipt or a wad of dust entered into a conveyance path for the magnetic card 4, the levels exceed the threshold value h1 but remain less than the threshold value h2 and the foreign object is not erroneously recognized as the magnetic card 4 inserted. When a thin object such as the receipt is caught in, the levels become between the threshold values h1 and h2 and the thin object can be distinguished from the magnetic card 4.
