Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut or detect foreign matter without flawing a card surface.
SOLUTION: The card reader has a foreign mater detecting mechanism 1 for detecting foreign matter 3 other than the card 2 in a card travel path 4 where the card 2 travels. This foreign matter detecting mechanism 1 comprises foreign matter detection members 5 (5a, 5b) having foreign matter engagement parts 6 (6a, 6b), a moving mechanism 7 which moves the foreign matter detection member 5 across the card travel path 4, and detecting means 8 (8a, 8b) which detect whether foreign matter 3 is present by the foreign matter detection members 5. The foreign matter detection members 5 are provided with cutting blade parts 17 (17a, 17b) which cut the foreign matter 3 and guide parts 18 (18a, 18b) which guide the foreign matter 3 to the cutting blade parts 17, and the foreign matter 3 is cut by the cutting g blade parts 17 or detected by the detecting means 8.
