Abstract:
To provide a card reader that can readily detect whether a card inserted from an insertion port of the card is a non-contact type IC card or not.SOLUTION: A card reader 1, which can take in a card 2 where an external connection terminal 2b of an IC chip will be formed, comprises: a card movement path 6 where the card 2 inserted from an insertion port 3 of the card 2 moves; and a sheet-like electrostatic capacitance sensor 20 for detecting whether the card 2 inserted from the insertion port 3 is a non-contact type IC card where a communication-purpose antenna 2c will be built, or not. Let an area where the external connection terminal 2b moves when viewed in a thickness direction of the card 2 be a terminal movement area MA, a width of the electrostatic capacitance sensor 20 in a width direction of the card 2 is wider than that of the external connection terminal 2b in the width direction of the card 2. When viewed in the thickness direction of the card 2, a notch 20a is formed in at least one part of a part of the electrostatic capacitance sensor 20 overlapping the terminal movement area MA.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
