NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I [R is H, 1-4C alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, benzhydryl or trityl; R1 is (di)deoxy sugar, amino(di)deoxy sugar, amino trideoxy sugar, etc.].

EXAMPLE: (20S, 21R)-3β-Dimethylaminopropoxy-14,21-epoxy-5β,14β-N-methyl-20- cardanolactam.

USE: Therapeutic agents for hypertension.

PROCESS: The subject compound can be obtained by condensing a compound of formula II with a sugar of the formula, A-W (W is a sugar residue, etc.; A is halogen) or with an aminoalkyl halide.
