PURPOSE: To provide a new-type cariostatic agent useful, e.g. for prevention of a decayed tooth. A glucosyltransferase inhibitory effect is utilized in this cariostatic agent.
CONSTITUTION: There are provided a cariostatic agent containing, as the active component, an unadsorbed fraction obtained by treating a solvent extract of tea leaves with a synthetic adsorbent for adsorption treatment, a cariostatic food containing the abovementioned unadsorbed fraction and a method for producing a cariostatic substance having a glucosyltransferase inhibitory activity. This production method is characteristically carried out by extracting tea leaves with a solvent, subsequently treating the resultant extract with a synthetic adsorbent for adsorption treatment and collecting the unadsorbed fraction. Especially, since the unadsorbed fraction exhibiting a strong glucosyltransferase inhibitory activity and free from peculiar taste, smell, etc., is utilized as the active component, the mixing ratio of this fraction is arbitrary. A very excellent cariostatic agent, therefore, can be provided. In addition, dental caries can be prevented by utilizing the cariostatic food containing this unadsorbed fraction.
