PURPOSE: To prepare a carpet capable of efficiently utilizing a carpet unnecessary material in a raw material, having sufficient general properties as a carpet using existing general carpet manufacturing equipment by lining the rear of a carpet base material with a backing material based on polyvinyl chloride.

CONSTITUTION: The rear of a carpet base material is lined with a backing material 7 having at least two polyvinyl chloride resin layers 4, 5 and ground matter with a mean particle size of 3mm or less of a carpet unnecessary material is contained in the polyvinyl chloride resin layer 5 positioned on the rear side of the carpet so as to be unevenly distributed on the side of the deep layer part of said resin layer 5.
