PURPOSE: To obtain a carrier superior in promotion of catalytic activity high in strength, and low in cost, by using as a carrier of a catalyst for hydrogenating still residue oil, a material consisting mainly of coals, and granulated by adding a small amount of a binding agent.
CONSTITUTION: Granules used as a carrier for still residue oil-hydrogenating catalyst are those obtained by adding a binder, such as silica or alumina, to a porous carbonaceous material having an isotropic configuration, such as a brown coal or subbituminous coal, and granulating them, and they have 50W200m2/g specific surface area, and 0.5W0.7cm3/g entire pore volume, 50W80% of this pore volume consisting of ≥10nm diameter pores. This carrier is inexpensive, and superior in strength and catalyst promoting action, and moreover, easily disposable.
