To easily press-fit a metal carrier 2 into an outer cylinder 3 and achieve simultaneous catalyst coating and catalyst tandem for a metal carrier unit for catalyst 1 (1A or 1B) comprising the metal carrier 2 for carrying a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas and the outer cylinder 3 for housing it.
A diameter of an end part (exhaust flowing direction upstream part) of the outer cylinder 3 of the metal carrier unit 1 (1A or 1B) is enlarged, and an enlarged diameter straight part 4 extending while having the diameter is formed. An inside diameter of the enlarged diameter straight part 4 of the end part of the outer cylinder 3 is almost equal to an outside diameter of the other end part of the outer cylinder 3. Thus, plural metal carrier units 1A and 1B can be connected when simultaneously catalyst coating is performed or they are carried on a vehicle.
