To provide a carving method, in which efficient cutting can be realized with a carving edged tool and, at the same time, with which a finished groove having a near shape obtained by hand carving can be obtained, and a carving edged tool.

The carving edged tool 6 having bottom cutting edges 13 at its tip and an outer peripheral cutting edges 12 on its peripheral surface is used so as to keep its state that its longitudinal direction leans to a surface 5 to be carved. By moving the tilted carving edged tool under rotation, the bottom cutting edges 13 and the outer peripheral cutting edges 12 of the carving edged tool 6 are abutted against the surface 5 to be carved. By moving the abutted carving edged tool as is inclined along the surface 5 to be carved, a groove 15 having a near V-shaped crosssection is formed. Further, when the carving edged tool, the edge of each outer peripheral cutting edge of which is made to be carved arcuatedly in an axial direction or in a centrifugal direction, is used, the inclined surface of the V-shaped groove 15 can be dented or swollen.
