PURPOSE: To find a false note and easily arrest a criminal by providing a bill number comparing means which mutually compares bill numbers stored in a bill number storage part.

CONSTITUTION: Bills are fed, one by one, to a conveyance path, a bill number read part reads out the bill numbers printed on the bills, and a CPU 9 writes the read bill numbers in a memory 10 through a bill number read control part 11. Then, a discrimination part decides whether or not the bills are genuine and the kinds of the bills. When bills set in a bill reception opening are all read, the CPU 9 reads out the bill numbers written in the memory 10 and collate the numbers of the received bills with one another. If bills having the same number are found, the CPU 9 displays the presence of the bills having the same number on an alarm display unit through an alarm control part 13. This alarm display unit 16 is installed at a position where user can not see it and only blank clerks can know the alarming.
