PURPOSE: To accurately read and gather X-ray image data from the surface of a storage type fluorescent material plate IP by providing the IP on the internal surface of a main body, setting the IP surface up when the IP is open, and obtaining light shielding performance on the whole when closed.

CONSTITUTION: An IP cassette 11 after photography is inserted into a feeder 12 with its lid part down, fixed on an elevation table 12a, and elevated up to a specific position. The cassette is locked by being inserted into the cassette push hole of an operating shaft 12b and opened by about 180° through the operation of a rubber sucker 12c as shown by a cassette 11'. The cassette is lowered to an insertion position without changing the attitude and mounted on a conveyor belt 16 in rotation, and the cassette 11' is conveyed to a read part 13 while opened; and the IP surface is scanned and X-ray image data is read. When the reading operation is finished, the cassette 11' is sent to an erasure part 14 while open, and the after image after the reading operation is erased; and the cassette is closed on an elevation table 15a and put in a sorter tray 15b selectively.
