Abstract:

To provide a cast iron member excellent in pitting resistance by changing the ferritic phase of a cast iron member into a phase having high strength by heat treatment and to provide a method for producing the same.

A cam shaft is held under heating at 830 to 910°C for 10 to 120 min and is thereafter cooled by oil cooling to transform a ferritic phase as-cast into a martensitic phase 5 or a troostite phase.
