Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make the handling of a chiller easy and to suppress the die opening in the stage of charging by grasping and holding a pair of halves of shell molds having plural chillers connected and supported integrally with support members by means of grasping members and charging molten metal.

CONSTITUTION: Plural chillers 6 are integrally connected and supported through rods 7 by means of support bars 8 and are set in the prescribed positions on a pattern plate 1. The plate 1 is closed with a dump box 9 contg. shell sand 11 incorporated therein with a thermosetting binder and the shell sand 11 is deposited on the plate 1 then chillers are heated to a prescribed temp. to harden the sand thereby sticking the same on the plate 1. The box 9 and the excess sand 11 are removed and chiller jigs 5 stuck with the sand 11 are stripped from the plate 1, whereby a half of a shell mold 10 is obtd. A pair of the molds 10 are airtightly joined and the bars 8 of the jigs 5 are grasped and held to each other by means of plural support bodies 14, then molten metal is charged through a sprue 13, whereby a cam shaft is cast.
