Title:
CASTING METHOD FOR PARTIALLY CRYSTALLIZING CHILL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP04118164
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To partially crystallize chills on the surface of a casting by a simple method without using chillers and ceramic casting mold by applying metallic fine powder for cooling and a heating material on the inside surfaces of cavities.

CONSTITUTION: The casting mold 1 is formed by superposing a cope 2 and drag 3 coated with the metallic fine powder 10 for cooling and a mold coating material 11. A molten cast iron is thereafter poured toward the cavity 4 from a sprue 5. The molten cast iron poured into the cavity 4 is rapidly cooled by the Cr fine powder which is the metallic fine powder for cooling applied on the inside surface of the 2nd cavity part 4b and the inside surface of the 4th cavity part 4d. The part coming in contact with the inside surface to be applied with the fine powder of the Cr is, therefore, crystallized as extremely hard free cementite. The part being in contact with the inside surfaces of a 1st cavity part 4a and the 3rd cavity part 4c of the cast molten iron poured into the cavity 4 are rapidly cooled by the exothermic effect of the mold coating material 11 of a thermit type without causing the chilling.
