To provide a catalog management apparatus for rapidly extracting a necessary portion from an electronic catalog.
When an electronic catalog is registered with a database 108 by a server 107, text information is extracted for each page in the electronic catalog, and depending on whether or not information included in an arbitrary column of a commodity master DB is included therein, the text information is associated with the commodity master. When text is extracted, a category name selected from among the pieces of text information included in the front page of the electronic catalog is retrieved. The found category is set as the category of a commodity of an association object, the commodity name of a commodity belonging to the category is retrieved from the catalog, the commodity name is presented to a user, and the commodity ID of a selected commodity name is associated with the content ID of a page of the noted catalog. At retrieval of the catalog, a keyword is retrieved from the commodity master, and the catalog of a content ID corresponding to an obtained data ID is outputted as a catalog obtained by the retrieval.
